3 Game-changers for Drawing in Procreate

I have a confession. I actually find it really challenging to draw on my iPad Pro. But as a professional illustrator and travel enthusiast, I love the convenience of being able to work anywhere with it. So this year I wanted to really push myself to learn how to draw on my iPad to the level that I can get my professional work done on it!

Here are three things that completely changed the game for me:
1. This well-designed case.
This case is heavier and has multiple secure, magnetic stand angles that you can set it at, which makes it a breeze to work ergonomically on a tabletop or your lap. It also has a well designed edge so you can protect and charge your Apple pencil at the same time. I’ve bought cheaper cases before, and they’ve never inspired me to work more on my iPad; this is truly worth the investment.

2. This perfect pencil tip.
One of my main issues with drawing in Procreate was that while the program worked beautifully, drawing always felt slightly unnatural and imprecise still on the iPad. My friend Tanya shared this pencil tip with me, and when I tell you that I ordered it so fast. The minute I swapped it out with the original pencil tip and started drawing, it unlocked something for me. It feels so much more natural, and like I have more control with my drawings again. I won’t work without it now.

3. This paperlike screen protector.
Although if I were to replace my screen protector, I would opt for this magnetic one so I have the easy option to take it off (which makes it easier for filming Reels and TikToks). It also really helps with making it feel like you’re drawing on a natural medium instead of a slippery glass surface!

Bonus 4. A pencil grip.
If you have issues with tendinitis or carpal tunnel like I do, adding a pencil grip really helps alleviate the pain so you can draw better and take care of your health.

These are the three things that really helped me learn to love drawing on my iPad and in Procreate. I hope they help you too if you’ve also been struggling, and then feeling like you’re alone because everyone else seems to be making Procreate with ease!
